Visit the Museum of National Art (MONA)

HEar about the exhibits through your personal audio guide, and afterwards. visit the MONA Vineyards to taste the a drop made from grapes grown on site.

Bruny Island

A short drive and a ferry ride from Hobart is Bruny Island, with kilometers of pristine national park and plenty of spots to pick up some locally made cheese, fresh oysters and unique spirits too. Take a stroll along a beach or rainforest walk and visit Bruny Island Lighthouse for a spectacular clifftop view. Climb the stairs to the top of  Truganini lookout for 360 degree bay views, and don’t forget to see if your can spot a rare white wallaby.

 Mt Wellington

Do your research and set off up Mount Wellington which rises over Hobart. Enjoy limitless bushwalking and panoramic views over the city. Pack a picnic and stop for lunch, and explore the lush forests while listening to the sounds of the wildlife surrounding you.

Salamanca Market

Every Saturday the shores of Salamanca come to life with stalls displaying wares from across Tasmania. This lively event offers visitors a chance to see, smell and taste Tasmania’s best and get a true sense of the Tasmanian spirit. The food is truly impressive, with everything form German gourmet hotdogs, to clam pies, you’re sure to find something unusual and exciting. Grab a souvenir to take home, and perhaps a few bottles of somethings special. Many of the market stalls have tastings available of unique spirits and liqueurs.

 

 

How to get there:


Fly into Hobart Airport from Sydney or Melbourne, or catch the ‘Spirit of Tasmania’ Ferry from Melbourne and take a self drive tour for the 3hr journey to Hobart from the port at East Devonport.

Best time to go:


Summer welcomes warmer temperatures perfect to enjoy the abundance of outdoor activities available in Hobart. Although winter can be quite cold, the Autumn and spring months can also be a lovely time to explore the town and appreciate the cozy bars and restaurants which abound.
